Weather in Delhi today: Yamuna flood crossing danger mark, evacuation soon

The Delhi administration went on high alert on Tuesday as the water level in Yamuna river crossed the dangerous level mark. The water level of the Yamuna river reached 205.40 meters at the old railway bridge, which is above the dangerous level. In a meeting called on Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the government will shift people from low-lying areas to safer places if needed.

“The unprecedented rains created problems for the people and Delhi’s system was not able to cope. Every year after rains, some vulnerable areas get waterlogged and the water recedes in a few hours. But 153 mm rain is unprecedented And one that happened in almost 40 years,” he said.

The Delhi government on Sunday issued a flood alert after Haryana released a massive amount of water of over one lakh cusecs into the Yamuna river from the Hathinikund barrage. Also, 1,90,837 cusecs of water was released from this barrage at 1 pm on Monday.

The government has identified 41,000 people who can be evacuated if the water level in Yamuna river crosses 206 mark.

Earlier, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the government is in alert mode and is fully prepared to control the situation.

“The Delhi government is on full alert. As soon as the water rises above 206 metres, we will start relocating people living on the banks. The process of taking them safely to relief camps will be started. First we We were feeling that the water level is less and will cross 205 meters on June 11, but today itself it has crossed 205 meters as more water is being released from Haryana,” he told ANI.

Rain in Delhi: Traffic disrupted at 9 places

Delhi Police said that traffic was disrupted at 9 places in the capital. Heavy rain Due to which felling of trees and water logging took place.

Trees were uprooted at 13 places in Delhi due to heavy rains. Due to this, traffic was disrupted at 9 places in the city. Surendra Singh Yadav, Special CP, Traffic, Delhi Police said, water-logging was reported at 80 places yesterday.
